Story

Dymaxion Racing UK

Dymaxion Racing is a team of six motivated 17‑year‑olds united by a shared passion for engineering, design, and performance. Our name is inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Car, a revolutionary concept that prioritised aerodynamic efficiency and intelligent use of resources — principles that define our approach today.

We operate with the mindset of a professional race team. Every design choice is justified by data, every component refined through testing, and every presentation delivered with clarity and purpose.

STEM RACING GLOBAL CHALLENEGE

The STEM Racing Challenge, formerly known as 'Formula 1 in Schools', is an initiative which seeks to expose ambitious students to the thrill of real-world engineering problem-solving, advanced technologies, and business management.

Teams of secondary school students design and manufacture miniature Formula 1 cars that run on compressed gas canisters, in addition to managing their teams as fully-fledged companies. Teams are judged not only on their car’s performance, but also on the strength and presentation of their brand, with winners progressing through Regional, National, and World Finals.

How We Go Racing

The Car

Over the course of this season, we are producing a miniature CO2-propelled Formula 1 car for Professional Class Competition. We use CAD and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to design and test our car in a virtual environment. We manufacture race car components using a combination of Computer Numerical Control, 3D printing and various finishing processes.

The Brand

To stand out from the competition, we are developing a powerful brand identity which communicates our values to stakeholders and competitors. This includes building a digital presence through social media, and the creation of team uniform, merchandise, and an Enterprise Portfolio for the team and our partners.

The Finals

Following domestic competition, the fastest teams will take part in the Aramco World Finals, hosted by a different Formula 1 circuit each year, for the chance to be declared World Champions. The highest levels of competition raise standards of precision to rival those of industry, and in recent years, teams from the UK have enjoyed much success.
